An M.B.A. is simply a masters degree in business. It stands for Masters in Business Administration and can be obtained in a variety of concentrations.
Instead of getting a Masters in say Finance, one could pursue a M.B.A. in Finance. What's the difference between the straight masters degree and the M.B.A.? Well it's in how broad the degree is. Generally, an M.B.A. includes more classes outside your major, while the straight masters focuses more on the major field itself.
Both give you enough training to be successful and equally knowledgeable, but it's a matter of where you want to concentrate your efforts. For example, I choose the M.B.A. route because I wanted to include some classes beyond finance, such as marketing, management, etc.
