A bottle of Coke from those coolers with the water in the bottom. You lifted up the lid, put your money in the slot, and slid the bottle through those wire tracks. Those jawbreakers that changed colour as you sucked them. Crackerjack when they had tin toys. Grab Bags for a nickel. Spending spare time in the summer collecting pop bottles to cash in for fall fair money. Ju jubes 3 for a penny. Getting $5 on my first day of high school for emergencies and it turned to dust 'cause I was scared to spend it.

I would get my allowance which was 50cents a week and buy a lb of Malted Milk balls. I would make them last about an hour..lol. Ok, maybe a little longer. I remember when hamburgers were 15 cents, I still remember a jingle for the hamburger place in town. "Jacks hamburgers for 15 cents are so good, good, good, you'll go back, back, back to Jack, Jack, Jacks for more, more, more. :) I'm late 40's so it's not just 50+ year old that remember.

I'm early forties, but a quarter bought a lot when I was a kid. A bottle of pop, a comic, a candy bar. And we still had penny candy, though it was almost gone by my time. Bazooka was still a penny.... Squirrel nut zippers and some of the better small stuff was a few cents each.

I'm not 50 years old, but 25 cents was worth more back then. $100 could be almost nothing in twenty years... unless you have a really valuable coin or something.
