Why is my Dell Inspiron 1000 standby light keeps flashing whether my computer is on or not?

I think you set it up to go to stand by every time you shut the lid down. You can verify this by going into control panel and battery/power options.

it should not flash if it is powered off - only if it is hibernating - call dell
