my apartment is just 2 blocks away from the office. therefore, i dont need to drive everyday. there are instances that i havent use my SUV for 5 straight days...literally, its just in the parking lot on the same location. Is this bad? Should I at least start the engine for a few minutes every other day specially during winter?

you dont have to start it more than once a week, it can go for a month if the battery is fairly new, but if you end up with a dead battery, run it for a half hour and then start every other week and run for 15 minutes :)

whats nice about modern cars is fuel injection, you dont' have to prime them, just turn on the key, wait 10 seconds and start it

There's a lot of leeway in what you can or should do with your SUV. From personal experience on sports cars and diesel cars, I'd start it up every other day for a few minutes just to keep the engine and battery in "operating" condition. It would be even better if once a week you'd get in it and drive it a few miles to work out more than just the fuel line and engine. And make sure you keep your tires properly inflated. It's not good to keep them sitting in one position for long periods of time. On a monthly basis I'd get it out on the highway for a few miles so you can keep it ready for when you may need it for such purposes. Finally, I'd keep jyone scotani's answer in mind. From the sounds of it, you certainly don't need an SUV, depending on it's size, and so I'd trade it in and get a smaller, more economical car to have around, unless that SUV has sentimental aspects to it. If you're not going to be using a car anymore than you're talking about, you certainly don't need a big one, unless you have regular need for something to carrry larger loads, which you don't allude to. And I think we're all assuming your vehicle is parked outside, so, this winter, and even in the summer, you'll need to keep it in "operating" condition. God Bless you.

Ok you can lission to them other fools and take it for what thy dont know
Here it is from a mechanic.
OK to let it sit for 5 day will not hurt it at all.
For say 30 or more days yes. But there are things you can do to help it.
First remove the negitave cable from the battery.
Next if it is not gonna be started for say 30 days or more, go to the auto parts store and get som STA_BAL and puit it into the gas
This will help the gas so it dont go stale.
Be shure the tires are up to snuff and have all the air required for them( say 32psi).
If you are storing it longer then say 6 mouths, wax it but do not remove the wax. It will protect the finish .

As to starting it. If you disconnect the battery there is no need to start it.

It is bad to leave it for too long. But starting it and just running it cold is worse. Better to start it once in a while (like once a week or two) and let it get to operating temperature. Also drive it so the tranny fluid warms up and circulates.

If it is very cold consider plugging the block heater in.

It's ok to let it sit for a week but you should drive it on the freeway to burn out the carburetor, once a month at least! SUV? Why don't you sell it & get something more economical- good luck.

As far as I know 5 days will do nothing at all to your vehicle for really long storage I know draining fuel is a big step and often enough during REALLY long times you have to change the oil and coolant and sometimes brake fluid. But for 5 days as far as I KNOW absolutely nothing should be amiss.
