You can do a search for the Statutory rape laws for Virginia. Some states say that the age of consent is 16, but if the other person is more than 4 years older than the minor child(16-17) then the person can still be charged with a crime. I don't know if Virginia is one of those states or not.

Depends on if they consider sex with a minor (under 18) a crime in Virginia or not. Sometimes, it mostly depends on if the girls' parents decide that they want to press charges. Either way, if she is pregnant, and it is determined through a DNA test that the 24 year old is the father, then he will have to pay child support. In some states, it also depends on whether or not the couple get married, whether or not the state will press charges. Contact a local attorney to find out specifics in your state.

The guy could get in trouble if the Parent or legal guardian press charges. It is considered statutory rape, but since the girl is 17 and there is no possiblity that he forced her in any way. that is the only way the man will get in trouble. I hope things work out for your cousin. Good luck.

In Virginia it seems there is
no “statutory rape” law pertaining to minors age 16 and over.
The cutoff age criteria in the published statute is 15 years of age so, since the fellow would not be subject to prosecution under criminal law, the statute of limitations issue is a moot point.

The law in VA says that if someone 18 years of age or older has sex with someone age 15, 16, or 17 years of age it is a class one misdemeanor and punishable with up to one year in jail and a $2,500.00 fine. Chances are, the only way the boyfriend would actually go to jail or get fined is if the girl's parents decide to press charges against him.

you need to check the statutory rape laws in VA. chances are, if her parents or her don't file charges there won't be any issues with him getting in trouble with the law for that. even if she ended up filing for child support charges would still have to be filed on him.
