You cannot take the log of a negative number.

However if you want the log of x base y then the equation is

log(x)/log(y) This will work regardless of the base of the log function used as long as the numerator and denominator log is the same.

log 7^(-7) = -7 log 7 = -7 x 0.845 = -5.916
