After the roll out of Vista is complete, he will leave Microsoft to spend all of his time working with the Gates Foundation doing philanthropy work. This was in the news several months ago and can be found in a press release at www.microsoft.com

Common sense: Do you think it would still sell if Bill Gates suddenly stepped down weeks before release (to public, not business)?
Maybe you got things confused with Sony.
Mr. "Sony = supercomputer" was demoted to chairman, while Mr. "Riiiddddgggeeee Racccceeeerrrr" took his place.
