Jeter had a great year, but so did a few other players, and Morneau earned it just as much as a Yankee fan would say Jeter did. I am not a fan of either team, so from the outside I have no problem with it. Realisticly speaking, it should be a conversation about Santana and Rivera, as both were more important to their teams success this season than the aformentioned hitters. However for some reason MVP has become most valueable hitter, as opposed to player. Perhaps we need a Most Important Hitter award, and the MVP can be an award to the best player of the year, even if it is a pitcher.

Morneau wasn't even the most valuable player on his team, so how he won the MVP I honestly do not know. Mauer and Santana were more important and voters got attracted by the RBI #s which were great but not earth shattering.

Jeter was a very strong candidate, personally I think he should've won it, and to be 6th and Crowley's ballot was a disgrace.

However there were also terrific years from players on playoff teams, Big Hurt carried the A's on his back to October and Jermaine Dye also in the second half of the year took his ballclub on his shoulders.

I think Morneau was a strange pick, not as awful as Colon winning the AL Cy Young in '05 but there were certainly two or three better options out there for the voters.

No doubt. He got cheated. He carried his team when they had no injuries. I have heard that "the Yankees would have made it to the playoffs without Jeter because they are so stacked" yeah right. if the Yankees didn't have Jeter they would be nowhere he is the core and center of the team. He is the captain and he is a hustle player who plays his heart out every time he steps on to the field. I'm not saying Morneau doesn't but Jeter is clutch and got his team through a lot of games.

MVP stands for Most Valuable Player. That basically means a player without which the team would've been screwed. The Yankees have enough talent that they can still fight without Jeter. Morneau was more "valuable" to the Twins, which is why he won the MVP award.

hi there yo pana derek jeter did not need to win the mvp enable's be genuine right here for a minute justin morneau's numbers were way more advantageous suited then derek jeter's were and why might want to any yankee win any awards in any respect hell once you've as a lot skills because the yankees have then you truly are anticipated to produce and are meant to produce so why do you ought to be rewarded for some thing that you're meant to do and are anticipated to do and hell like i suggested his numbers weren't even almost as good as justin morneau's were

This question.. a little late don't you think?

Jeter has a world series ring (4 acutally), he and the rest of you Yankees should just chill.

Enjoy next season and good luck.

But no, Morneau has better numbers at bat (Excluding Batting Average) And without him the Twins would not be anywhere close to a winning record. Jeter has too many talent around him. A-Rod, Damon, Abreau, Giambi, you know? Without him, the Yankees are still a fighting force. Morneau only has Mauer and Torri.

And Mauer dropped from .398 to something like .324... something like that because he runs into too many double plays.

Yankees can't have everything. Though you already do have 26 Rings... isn't that good enough man?

We only have four :( or 3... can't remember.

-Peace

(5 Minutes later)
As i thought, a Yankee fan gives me a thumbs-down :(
Tryin to answer as nice as i can here, while at the same time sticking up for my team like Yankees fan would for them.

No, Jeter already has enough awards. Morneau deserved the award. And if Jeter was never a Yankee, he wouldn't be so hyped, the Yankees really are the same team with or without him.

No, most MVP voting is based on the performances at the end of season stretch and Moreau had the best numbers down the stretch, overall, Jeter maybe should have got it.

Yes, Jeter should have won the MVP, without a doubt. When Morneau is finished using the trophy for his table centerpiece for the holidays, he needs to mail it to it's proper owner:

Yankee Stadium
Bronx, NY
c/o Derek Jeter
2006 MVP
