I have tried to simply Google and all I can see are sites selling hard drives. I need information along the lines of what a hard drive does and about adding and additonal drive for extra file storage. I'm writing a paper on expanding computer memory and I need a couple of sites on the internet for references. Does that better explain what it is I'm searching for? Thanks!

I like the "how stuff works" site for good explanations of technical topics: http://www.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk.htm

If you're searching for information on how to upgrade memory, why would you want information on hard drives? They're as similar as your house and your car. http://www.howstuffworks.com/ is the best place for people who don't understand even the basics of something to go, to do their research, though.

What do you want to know just ask me. Add some details and I'll do my best. but wikipedia is good for vague and general terms.
