At least a year before engagement. You need to see them in all 4 seasons. Then another year of engagement. This way you have 2 years under your belt before the actual marriage. Don't be hasty. Marriage takes only 5 minutes to get into, but months to get out of.

Six months should give you enough time to really get to know the person physically, mentally and emotionally. Be sure that the emotionally aspect of the relationship does not cloud the mental aspect resulting in an abusive relationship. If any negative feelings arise in any form, you should take that feeling and explore the origin of it. There may be something bad with the relationship and you may need more time to really decide if you want to pursue the relationship further.

I think that marriage is different these days, a lot of people get married just to have the fancy wedding and to just say they're married.
My man & I have been together for 7yrs and have 2 young boys together but we're not married and we still don't know when we will get married. If 2 people are happy as a couple and fullfill each others lives then to me they are already commited to each other.
But hey..... that's just me.

There is no cookie cutter answer to that question...every situation is unique and individual. My husband and I only knew eachother 2 months, we only dated for 2 weeks out of that and spent the last 2 weeks apart...upon returning, we decided to get married. It's been 6 wonderful years next month. Listen to your head and your heart...not anyone elses. If we would have listened to what everyone else said, we wouldn't be together.

It depends on the people. Some people say wait a few months, some say a year or even later than that. No one can GIVE you the correct answer. Both people have to be ready and comfortable with it. Good luck.

at least a year. give it time for the hormones of attraction to wear off, and have at least one fight so you know if youre really compatible (maybe the other person doesnt fight fair-wouldnt you want to know that?) you need to know that they will be there for you through good times and bad

At LEAST a year - to go through all the seasons, holidays, getting to know each other and your families.
