During the 40's in America there were many jobs created for women for the cosmetic companies(factories), lipstick for example, the cases were now being made into bullet shells. Munitions was a big business but made for the war effort. War bond sales. Manufacturing of military vehicles zoomed here and in many other parts of the world. but we really had the major factories for our efforts in the war. Scientists flourished for they all were working on solutions. There were many day pay jobs, you would stand in line for milk, butter, eggs, things like that for there allotment checks given out for you and family, it's called food rationing. So most of those people were in new jobs. There is an organization called Rosey the Riveter. there is a memorial in Sacremento for the women of WW11, they worked in shipyards as welders of parts for ships, airplanes, etc. Medical suppliers were working over time, bandaging, and team work with scientists worked on the prothesis(artificial limbs) for those who had them blown off. Oh I forgot rubber processing for tires, jeeps, trucks, etc.
