I am PROUD of my heritage -- and the things that my Grandparents had to suffer and deal with when they chose to flee from their country of origin, become indentured servants, and take a chance on establishing a life for their descendants in America -- and YES, they LEGALLY immigrated to America, did their service as Indentured Servants, paid their way out of that contract, and their children (MY PARENTS) attained Graduate Degrees (and my father was a WWII Paraplegic Veteran) -- something that my Grandparents never would have dreamed was possible (and they had very little education). Then ... us grandchildren -- we all have Served our Country as well, and they never saw this -- but we ALL Earned our UGrad and Graduate Degrees, entered the Military and have long, distinguished service careers -- and I was the 1st to Retire from the Military. We also have our own homes (a real dream considering our grandparents' background), and ... are independent adults.

It's true that you don't get to choose where you're from, but if you don't like it, you don't exactly get a second chance with a choice. If you ask me, you should just appreciate what you have been given where you are, and feel lucky that you're not worse off than you could be.
