Yep, you can use that. The danger of table salt is the iodine... but frankly, your fish would have to be pickled long before they would suffer any ill effects from the iodine.

Also, I've heard tell many times that salt has benefits for freshwater fish... this is not true. Freshwater fish do NOT have salt in their, in the wild. Period. They cannot regulate their osmotic pressure (the amount of water/salt they retain in their bodies) - in water with too much salt, the water in their bodies is 'sucked' out of their bodies.

So unless you are treating for parasites, or putting some salt in for brackfish fish like mollies and swordtails, please omit the salt. It is not necessary. Proper cleaning regimen and avoiding overstocking and overfeeding are the best tools to have a healthy tank.

you can also use Rock Salt (like you use to make ice cream)
very good for the fish and also makes a good treatment for some illnesses
for normal use use 1 tablespoon per 10 gal of water
for treatment use 1 tablespoon per 5 gal

there is a salt you can use for freshwater fish it helps them to fight diseses and helps with gill funtion. you can find it anywhere. walmart for only a few bucks.

you can buy aquarium salt it is very cheap, they even sell it at wall-mart.
