Recent research has shown that chewing gum actually helps students focus their attention on their work, and makes them exhibit less ADHD symptoms, such as decreased attention span. For example, taking a test will go much smoother if the student is allowed to chew gum.
Another example is when studying for an exam. Two students studying for the same exam, one chewing gum and the other not. The one chewing gum will score higher approximately 60 percent of the time if all other factors are the same.

Can't help you however I must ask, where did the get the idea from? Gum has no validation to those attributes. I chewed gum throughout grade school to have my jaw screwed up later in life. Can you pick something else more tangible to do a thesis on?, I mean no disrespect, but I have never found studies that say else wise unless the medical journals have changed, which I doubt because I subscribe to those.

I can't remember the articles i read that mentioned it..but i do know from personal experience also that chewing gum helps with attention deficit problems. The old joke, she can't walk and chew gum at the same time, well i can walk and chew gum at the same time...but i can' t walk, chew gum and think of everything else in the universe at the same time. lol

In my experience, anyone chewing gum is less likely to be talking. This could be a good thing, as teachers typically want everyone to be quiet.

some gum prevents tooth decay. It also keeps your mouth busy so the teacher might appreciate the quiet.

Chewing gum has been proven to keep you more alert as well as seriously help with bad breath! That should be enough! Keeping you more alert - makes the test scores higher...
