Who else has finals coming up? Mine are next week and I'm not ready for them! Is anyone else stressed out, too?

Speaking as a college professor who has finals this week, I can honestly say that it's pefectly normal for students to feel pressure and stress during this time.

A lot of it has to do with so much riding on how one does on their finals. For example, some classes might only offer a midterm and a final, so you've got to do well if you want to pass with a higher grade. But in my classes, the final is more like an extended quiz, which helps take some of the pressure off.

Now that doesn't mean you can simply not study and prep, because it can make the difference between one grade an another.

My advice is this, don't cram because that puts far more pressure on you than you really need. The better approach is to study in chunks, with breaks in between. This makes the learning more manageable and helps lower the stress. Then get a good night's sleep before and don't worry about the exam. Fact is, most students who over-study do worse because they begin to second guess and question themselves.

In my final review, I give students a good sense of what they can expect in terms of questions and info I'm testing. But there are those professors who offer little or no prep at all. For example, when I was a student, I had professors who would simply say "everythning's on there" and that was the extent of their review. Basically, no help at all!!

Another technique I used to use was to pretend I was the teacher and literally lecture to myself, pretending I'm the teacher and I'm explaining things to the students. This helps refresh one's memory, improve retention, and helps you explain things better.

I may be in high school, but mine are in two weeks. Ugh. The only benefit is early release on three out of four days. Yay. Having just moved to this new district from another side of town, I'm still adjusting to having no friends. No one to rant on about school with. Unfortunate, it seems.

Good luck on your exams, Kaitlyn.

I have finals coming up...well actually they're here. We'll be done Friday. I'm streesed out but its strange because I'm not doing anything about it. I have a Chem. test in a few hours, yet I'm here on the internet. Just pray, cause I know that's what I'm gonna do.
