Company Information: P.S. 1 is a well-established, hip art center dedicated to the production, exhibition and interpretation of artistic innovations. It is housed in a charming old public school building in Queens (hence the name). However, it also makes extensive use of various other institutions throughout the area. Recently, the center merged with the Museum of Modern Art , although it continues to maintain its own identity. Admission is by donation.

Public schools in Manhattan are referred to as PS1, etc.
I don't know what its history is, I sometimes wonder if it's simply because it's easier to keep track of this way.

PS is play station 1, since then there are 2, and 3. It is a
video engineering console for game educational, strategy,
training simulations, and puzzles.
