I gave my dog a piece of chocolate cake. A week later, he had worms. Did he get worms from the cake? Can a dog get worms from human food? Explain your answer please.

You should /never/ give your dog chocolate. Dogs have a hard time digesting it and it can be fatal. White chocolate is acceptable, though, but I would stay away from sweets, especially human food. I don't think your dog would have gotten worms from cake though. Unless your cake is wormy...

But no chocolate!

Chocolate contains theobromine. A naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, theobromine increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs.

no he didn't get it from the cake.
your dog should be wormed (with drontal plus from the vets, EXCELLENT stuff, can be given any time of the day without the need to starve your dog for 12 hours before giving it to him)
every 3-4 months.
it cannot pick up the worms from the cake unless the cake contained the worms.
your dog can however pick it up from the the park of wherever you take your dog for a walk where un wormed dogs have been.
it can be picked up in so many ways which is why it is so important to stay with your worming program.
take your dog to the vet who will weigh him, to determine who much of the worming treatment your dog will need, it is not expensive at all.
i wouldn't recommend getting worming treatment from the pet store as they are rubbish, a have tried them before and found them to be a con.
drontal plus not only immediately rids the worms without the need to starve your dog, but it also adds a fantastic shine and condition to your dogs coat.
my dogs will never have anything else!
i hope i have helped.

dogs should not have chocolate. but they cant get worms from it.worms come from worm eggs in the ground or other dogs or biting wild game rabbits deer etc and fleas. fleas carry tape worm so do wild game if they have tape worm. the only way they can get worms r from something that has or has had worms.you cant get worms from people food no more then you can get fleas or have a baby from eating it.

No, worms are parasites that come from other places. Chocolate cake and other human food does not spontaneously create worms out of thin air.

Dude DON'T feed your dog chocolate! Bakers chocolate can kill a dog and i'm sure other chocolates aren't good either. Dogs can get worms thru almost anything, being outside around other animals droppings or chewing on dead remains or killing other animals or being bit by certain bugs. Lots and lots of factors. Just continue to give them de-wormer and they should be fine.

Dogs don't get worms from any human food as they are parasites. Chocolate will not cause this in any animal.

Never give anything chocolate to a dog!! No, he didn't get worms from the chocolate, but your vet should have told you to never let a dog eat chocolate. Dogs have died from it.
