I have had pains once in a while in my hips, especially since I ran hurdles in high school and college track. I was scared that it was in the joint (it's a ball in socket), but did some research and found that was probably not the case. The most likely cause is your "hip flexor", the muscles in your hips.

The best way to get rid of these pains or any other muscle pain is to stretch it out. Sit with the bottom of your feet touching and push down on the inside of your knees with you arms. Do this for 10 seconds, then repeat. Do it in front of the TV or whenever you have pain. Start out easy at first then see how far you can stretch without injury (some pain is OK). You could also look up some additional hip stretches, but this "butterfly" stretch is by far the best.

What do you mean by "hips"? People use that word to mean different things. Pain from the hip joint is usually felt in the front of the pelvis. Pain on the sides of the hips is usually from trochanteric bursitis. Pain in the buttocks is usually from problems in the lumbar spine.

That is an unusual question.
How old are you? Do you have Osteoporosis? Have you hurt your hips in the past?

It is unusual to have pain in hips as you described. It could be osteoarthritis, or it could be more than that.
