What happens when you melt white sand?

Assuming that your sand will melt to form glass it will be CLEAR not white. The grains of sand are clear, but light reflects and refracts within the bead making them appear to be white. The same effect is seen with Grey hair.. it is really colorless but the reflections within the hair make it opaque/grey.

That isn't exactly the process, but I guess if you melt white sand you get white glass.

you dont get glass by melting sand, you have to heat SiO2 to a certain temperature.... it just happens to turn out that most coastal sands are 70 percent SiO2.
