The United States of America is 225 years old. That is the time between now and the ratification of the Articles of Confederation in 1781.
The Declaration of Independence did not make us ONE country, it made the colonies 13 SEPARATE countries.
The Constitution changed the shape of our nation's governemnt, but we were already a single nation by that time.
The Articles were the first national government we had. Adopted by the Second Continental Congress in 1777, ratified by the states in 1781.
