the area of a rectangle is 27 sq. ft. the base is 3 times more than twice the height. what are the dimensions on the rectangle? what is the area?

i need to show my work too...wouldnt the equation i have to set up be

h x (2h + 3)=27 ??

i tried that but i dont think it worked..

That is correct.

A = bh = 27
b = 2h + 3

substitute to get your equation
h x (2h + 3) = 27

distribute to get
2h^2 + 3h = 27
2h^2 + 3h - 27 = 0
factor to get
(2h + 9)(h - 3) = 0

h = 3 ft
so b = 9 ft

Check your work
area = 9x3 = 27
b = 9 = 3 x 2(3)

ur quadratic eqn is rite...
jus expand it ...
2h^2 + 3h - 27 = 0...
(2h+9) (h-3) = 0
h = 3 or -9/2...
since the measurement can't be -ve..choose 3...
therefore the h = 3 and the b=9...
