i have a quadra-jet 4 bbl 305 and the the whole carb is messed up but mainly the choke pulloff, anyways if i just go ahead and buy one of those edelbrock carbs wouldnt that be better than trying to get this one fixed. because this one is about 25 years old and it runs horribly

You can't fit a square bore carb on a GM Quadrajet type intake manifold witout an adaptor plate. You can buy edelbrock or holley carbs that are Quadrajet replacments from (stock to hi-po) If your not smogging it that get an edelbrock type manifold (performer rpm!!!).You can go square bore carb with more options. lots more power too.Add those headers don't forget.

YES!!! The quadra-jet is junk!!! The Edelbrock carb is a really good choice, they are easy to tune and will run great out of the box. The 650 electric choke is your best choice not the 750, not on a 305. Do your self a favor and also get the Edelbrock swivel banjo fuel line fitting or the fuel line and filter combo. It will eliminate any fuel line to air cleaner / filter interference. You will most likely get several opinions on what size carb to get especially from the bigger is better crowd so call or visit the websites for Edelbrock or Summit Racing or Jegs. An adapter will be needed for original intake or get a Edelbrock Performer Intake.

I bought an Edlebrock 750 CFM carb for my '73 Mercury Marquis 429. It worked right out of the box and I am very satisfied. Beats the heck out of trying to make that old crap work. The quadraJet was a nightmare carb anyway, buy a new Edlebrock.

I had a quad on my 1972 one ton Chevy and all I had was trouble. I replaced it with an Eldelbrock with an electric choke. The truck is easier to start and has a lot more low end torque.
The Edelbrock carb I have was designed by Dave Weber and his his trademark on it. It's a quality piece of equipment.

My Advice, get the Quadrajet rebuilt by someone that knows what they are doing.
Edelbrock stuff is not as good as factory. I knew Vic Edlebrock personally back in the late 1970's and that guy would sell his own Mother to make a buck.
Trust me, get the original rebuilt or buy an ORIGINAL rebuilt carb for your vehicle.
You''ll be happy that you did !

replace it with a Edelbrock square bore (Carter AFB) carb. The Quadratoilet, never did work very well.

just get a new edelbrock 750, or preferably a holly 750 which is proven for better performance....
or if you want the best go with a demon, if you have plenty of money...
