How many weeks do i have to be before i can know if my baby is a boy or girl?

20 weeks is when your doctor will want to get an ultrasound...mainly to make sure there are no heart defects or spinal defects...which now can be operated on inutero! At that same time, the genetalia are pretty well visible.

Some doctors in China and India claim they can tell by 11 weeks. However, often the ovaries are actually testes and they haven't decended to the scrotum- and sometimes it doesn't happen until the birth process...there have been millions of cases of undecended testes in males. Ultrasound is big business in these coutries because in China, you are allowed only 2 children. So parents abort a duplicate. In india, it is more expensive to have a girl to afford a dowery for.

The ideal time to find out is between 18-20 weeks, however there have been few cases of 16 weeks that I've read about in books. You'll get the better accurate reading if it's closer to the 20 week time.

I would say around 20 weeks would be the best time. Any weeks after that, would be even better, then the sex will be easier determined as long as the baby is in a good position for the ultrasound tech to see the babies genitals.
