In Michigan, that is a part of a new law by conservatives.

House Bill 5882 makes it a crime for a man, whether he is the possible father or not, to 'change or attempt to change an existing housing or cohabitation arrangement' with a pregnant significant other, to 'file or attempt to file for a divorce' from his pregnant wife or to 'withdraw or attempt to withdraw financial support' from a woman whom he has been supporting -- if it is determined that the man is doing these things to try to pressure the woman to terminate her pregnancy.

Remember, under the Domestic Violence Against Women Act, there is a presumption that any allegation made against a man is true.

Ridiculous.

In those situations, the guy needs to grow up and be a man and learn to stick around, but to throw him in jail for wanting to leave is crazy.

I assume men in those situations would already have to make child support payments for the baby, which is the right (and legal) thing to do, but you can't make somebody stay.

Men who leave their pregnant wives/girlfriends are losers, not criminals. And those who aren't the father certainly don't have the legal responsibility to stick around.

Okay the way I'm understanding this is that leaving or holding back support from a significant other is illegal if:

"it is determined that the man is only doing these things to try and pressure the significant other to terminate the pregnancy.

So if a woman has an abortion because her man plans to move out is not illegal. Only if he pressured her to have the abortion by threatening to move out. So long as he doesn't say have an abortion or I'll move out its okay.
I can see how this is going to cause a lot of problems for you men, I know how vindictive woman can sometimes be. Better stock up on those condoms guys.

"So if atheists are so repulsed by employing the belief of God punishing "harmless" human beings in the OT" you spot; there is your first situation - atheists don't have self belief on your god or the different form of invisible sky living creature so all of us understand complete nicely your bible (aka goat herders' handbook to the galaxy) grow to be written by employing adult males steeped in the myths and superstitions of Bronze Age kultcha. AND your 2nd situation is which you do no longer seem to appreciate that a clump of cells isn't a guy or woman ... a minimum of during the 1st 2 trimesters. I doubt too many females in seek of an abortion accomplish that once the 2d trimester and this is maximum many times in the 1st. Your 0.33 situation is which you think of you have the superb to tell some one else what to do with their physique ... and regardless of the form you p.c. to look at it, it particularly is HER physique. How approximately if somebody informed you which you would be able to desire to no longer decrease your hair or fingernails - particular i know it makes little experience yet neither do you. females hardly use abortion as a means of delivery administration - the undesirable being pregnant is maximum often hence of a mistake of a few description. IF USians had extra useful independent intercourse training there may well be much less p.c. for abortions. "a female can't discover ways to early the thank you to no longer have infants." ~

So the intent of the law is to punish men who use emotional/psychological and financial blackmail (or coercion) to try and force a woman to have an abortion against her will?

Wow. And you say "conservatives" are pushing for this law? I would expect women's rights groups to supporting something to punish guys who try to force women to have abortions. Whose body is it anyways?

How anyone could prove intent is a tough call. I didn't read the text of the bill, but it might not be prosecutable.

PS I said "financial" blackmail because I am guessing that if the guy is living with the woman he is sharing expenses and leaving her could leave her financially in hot water. She could lose her housing while pregnant.

What a choice: "have an abortion or lose your home?"

The phrase "if it is determined that the man is doing these things to try to pressre the woman to terminate her pregnancy" is stupid and can't be shown. If the broad is desperate enough or dumb enough or slave enough to abort just to keep the creep then she is responsible. I mean let the as s go - no matter how gorgeous he is with and without clothes or how hot he is in bed and how magnetic is his sweaty personality and promises or how much you know you could never leave the filth of him behind - Just Walk Out or Kick HIm Out. It's so simple because we are talking about YOUR child. Is there something about YOUR that women don't understand? Imagine waking up the next morning after you abort and looking at the a ss standing in front of you. YOU aborted YOUR child for THAT? I promise any woman, she cannot live with that. Life after that is an eternity of hell.
(migod, I sound like one of those whacko right wingers.)

I think you're reading it incorrectly. The man would be punished for PRESSURING the woman to terminate her pregnancy by means of cutting off financial or emotional support. The law basically bans that sort of emotional blackmail. I'm liberal myself, but the law makes sense.

What?!?!?! That is silly. He should be made financially responsible for the child but charged with a crime. That is taking it too far.

The final decision is the womans to terminate or not. Showing proof of intent will not be easy.

Weird? I don't think it should be a crime. In the end, no matter how much pressure by anyone, it's woman's body and her right to choose.
