If you really have vision problems, go see your school nurse and request an eye exam. If she finds you have problems she will write a note to refer your parents to an eye Dr. Also if you are still going to the pediatrician most of them have eye exam charts and all you have to do is mention that you can't see to read.

If you just want the glasses, you can use magnifying ones for close up without harming your eyes. You can choose the lowest magnification available (1.25 I think). Or, some stores sell absolutely clear glasses just for fun. Try Claires.

You mom may not be willing to take you to the eye doctor because of insurance reasons (exams are expensive, and so are glasses!). Talk to a teacher or counselor at your school to see if they can arrange an appointment for you. If it turns out that you need a prescription like +1.50 (meaning that you are a little far-sighted) or -1.50 (meaning that you are a little near-sighted), you might be able to get by with the drug store glasses. You need to check with a doctor before using them though, because if it is not the right prescription, it will damage your eyes.

Have the school health aid recommend you for an eye exam. Since the school asks mom should do it. Sometimes parents are busy and don't realize it may be a real concern and not just a fashion. With kids it's hard to tell. If you think you need glasses get a note from school - that will really help. Good Luck!

the glasses at walmart are reading glasses they should not be worn unless your eye doc say what type you need. How hold are? why won't your mom take you to the eye doc? If your in school you should have an eye exam there. Or make the appointment yourself if you are old enough?

WalMart now has an eye doctor on staff....with a full range of test.
So unless you do not express your visual need during the eye exam, you should be just as comfortable....with no less "risk".
You should realize that she may be needing to shop where can best afford; they have just as much variety in style too.
Be appreciative instead that you have a parent that cares to take you to be tested/fitted for glasses....not to mention they have contacts too!

If you don't need glasses and still wear, yes it will mess up your eyes. If you can see clearly, you don't need any. but if you see that they are blurry or such, go see a specialist. If you are still young, it is important that you take good care of them. Old people buy walmart glasses because their eyes are to aged to function properly soo a pair of glasses wouldn't matter to them. If your mom doesn't listen, tell your dad or aunt but don't wear any until a optometrist's advice.

Why do you want glasses? Do you have a vision problem or do you want them for fashion reasons? It is hard to believe that your mother won't take you to the eye doctor if you are having a problem.
I couldn't help notice that you said, you told your mother a million times, shouldn't you be asking her?

Ask your teacher to talk to your mom. Maybe she can say that she has seen you straining your eyes in class. You might also be able to ask your school nurse for help.
