My husband and I have decided on Anissah for a girl and Samir for a boy.

Anissah is his mom's name.
My husbands nickname is Sam, so we thought it would be like naming our son after his dad.
These are both Arabic names, my husband is Arab. We live in the USA.
We are expecting, but we don't know what we are going to have yet.

Anissah is cute.

Samir....to me looks and sounds like Smear.
could it be a family pet name?

my son has a family "pet" name like that, after his daddy.

'Aneesaa', as 'Anissah' is to be phonetically pronounced, means "the friendly one" in Arabic.
And 'Samir', or 'Sameer' as it should be correctly pronounced, means "companion for an evening's chat" in Arabic.
...But, more than their literal meaning, it is the personal meaning which the children's parents and elders find in the names, that gives them a truly special and exclusive beauty.
My advance blessings to the young one !

they come from your family so its a sign of respect for your family members BUT when he's grown people will make judgements about him, sight unseen based on his names. If you feel those associations will only be positive then go for it. If you feel those names could be used against your son then use them as middle names, still showing respect for the family but with more "americanized" first names. just a thought....

I would pick Annissah for tehgirl name. Always go with your first instict. Test it out! Role play with your husband.....Call out the names.... Like "Annissah, come here, or eat your vegetables". It is always better when words are pronounced out loud. Bless you and your little one...
