I liked the quirky subject matter, the not too overdone humor, and writing( quick and easy to read yet not boring), left me wanting more, read american gods but enjoyed neverwhere more.

Neil Gaiman co-authored the book Good Omens, which is one of my favorites ever. Absolutely fabulous humor, very witty writing/social commentary. If you enjoyed his other stuff, I'd definitely recommend Good Omens.

You might like Terry Pratchett's books; I believe he co-authored a book with Gaiman, Good Omens. Also check out Christopher Moore's A Dirty Job.
