1) Break up Iraq into 3 new countries: 1 Sunni, 1 Shia, 1 Kurd.
2) Move all US troops into the new Iraqi Shia nation & bring 50% of all US troops home by end of 2007. 3) US gives massive aid to new Iraqi Sunni nation to make up for oil revenue losses in return for guarantee of no terrorists activity in the new nation. 4) US upgrades entire new Iraqi Shia nation oil infrastucture helping to make the new nation billions of dollars. New Iraqi Shia nation becomes US ally forever (for fixing their oil infrastucture) as well as keeping the Iraqi Sunnis from attacking them & "protecting them" from Iran. 5) Kurds are forever grateful to the US for giving them their own nation. 6) Bring home ALL US troops with honor at end of 2008. 7) No more insurgents because there aren't anymore US troops/Iraqi army to fight, no more civil war, the US aid is rebuilding the new Iraqi Sunni nation & the last thing these former Iraqi Sunnis want is Al Qaeda foreigners in their new country.

All the US would be doing with the Iraqi Shia oil is fixing their infrasturture so that they can ship it out to the world. The Iraqi Shia can't fix it themselves & would love to have the US their to fix it. 75,000 US troops would be staying in the new Shia nation until 2009 protecting them from Iraqi Sunnis & Iran. And remember that the Iraqi Shia fought the Iranians in the Iran-Iraq war in which millions died so don't be so sure that they will ally themselves with Iran. Kurds have their own oil & army & don't need the US except also to build oil infrastucture. What Muslim will back down US aid/bribe? Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan all LOVE US aid/ bribes & the US doesn't have any problems with them. Bribes work VERY well in the Middle East. When do US troops, except Generals, have time to figure out a diplomatic/political solutions to the war in Iraq? They are there to do their job which is kill insurgents/terrorists, win hearts/minds of the Iraqi people, stay alive & win the war.

I think the Sunnis and/or the Kurds might invade the new Shia nation for the oil. And, how can we protect them from terrorism and attack if all of our troops our home? Nice ideas, but I really don't think there's any plan that's going to magically harmonize the region without massive death and destruction to one or more of the insurgent groups. Furthermore, the Jihadists will find some other reason to try & destroy America. At least you are trying to think of some way to end the violence. Wonder what's going on up on the Hill regarding same.

Sounds like an answer by someone who's never been there....
Many of the Shiite's are against us too; Al Sadr is one of the most powerful Shiite clerics in the country. On top of that, he has ties with the prime minister and other members of government, which probably accounts for much of the corruption there. The Kurds have old ties with Iran (many sought refuge there during the Iran-Iraq war in the 80s) and rumor has it that the Sunnis are being funded by Hezbollah, an Iran funded terrorist group. If you're gonna put the U.S. troops anywhere, it should be with the Kurds. We haven't been attacked in Kurdish territory the entire time we've been there.
Iraq is a tribal nation. It'll take a great miracle to get them to work together; however, I don't think it's impossible. It'll just take gumption on the Iraqi's part.
As far as honor for U.S. troops...any person who signs the contract to defend his or her country against enemies both foreign and domestic lives and dies wth honor, no matter where our president and government sends us. I'm more concerned how we'll get out of the quagmire in our own Congress. The Dems have control, fine. But they don't have a clue what to do in Iraq either. Keep in mind, many of them signed the Iraq Resolution giving the president permission to use force in Iraq.

Not a bad idea -- on paper but don't believe any in Iraq would ever trust the US again with their oil revenues. Already, billions are missing and never accounted for. The Iraqis - no matter the faction - just don't trust the United States. Even today, they are likely burning the midnight oil brokering some kind of deals within in order to get the US out! Of course the United States invested heavily in this 'war'
-- as the Iraqis move ahead with their OWN way of handling security, Bush and his cronies will think of other reasons why they have to stay. And its doubtful that the Iraqis will, at this juncture, actually accept any Bush inspired plan.
Security is no longer Bush' problem.

It is a false notion to think terrorism will stop when the US leaves. There will be less, yes, but it will not cease. And someone would start invading their fledgling neighbors. Remember, many of the "insurgents" aren't Iraqis anyway- they come from neighboring governments that fear the spread of democracy.

Anyone who thinks we can set up a situation where the Kurds, Sunnis, and Shiites will work out their differences and live peacefully, trust each other to share their oil wealth, and stay off each other's land should rent and watch 'Lawrence of Arabia.' It's a great flick, and what it shows is still true today.

The theory sounds good, but do you really think bribing the Sunnis will work?
I don't. That's like saying you could have bribed Hitler before WWII. They gave him country after country & all he wanted was more. The Islamic Extremists want the entire world.
Don't believe me? Ask them.
They have said it time after time, but many people refuse to believe it.

You forgot the fact the president of Iran would love nothing better than to get his hands on Iraq. Old axes to grind and all of that stuff.

I have a simpler solution. Simply pull out all troops and foreign personnel and tell Israel to take care of it.
