the photo book is a nice gift for her. they are fun to go through and bring back nice memories. i know you said not to mention the obvious, but i work as a nurse in the hospital and it is neat for a patient to have chocolates to offer every one who comes to visit. when my grandmother was in the hospital i brought her a big wicker basket full of hershey kisses, etc. everyone enjoyed them, from the nurses, doctors, housekeeping and maintanence. she was the most popular patient on the floor! it gives them something to offer people that come to her room. anyway, i know as a nurse a little piece of chocolate makes everything better!

Real Socks, button up the front shirts or a robe so she can walk around not being exposed, and other creature comforts of home. Also if she is not to tired crossword puzzles (or similar ), headphones with music she likes, pictures of things she likes. Pretend you are stuck in a room for days with nothing and what would you like flowers are nice but nothing like having your own deodorant, shampoo/ conditioner or curlers and such for her hair.

Make her a basket of issues all people needs like toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, and so on. Or like teas, soups, basic dry meals for her to make. At her age and in her situation, she's probably on a fixed earnings, so in case you may save her money on issues she needs, it will be a lot greater effective than getting her some thing to assemble airborne dirt and dust!

A book or a book on tape. A nice warm blanket. Offer to take care of her house or run her errands.

Nothing makes a grandmother happier than visiting. If she can eat normal food or what she likes, bring her that and eat it with her and talk to her about your day - she would love that.

Make up a book of family pictures for her to look through. It will cheer her up without demanding too much concentration.
