We had a discussion tonight probably because there is a full moon. So for any scientists out there if the moon was compromised somehow what would happen to our world. In
the new movie version the Time Machine the moon broke up
so that's also what prompted this question. Any answers?

If the moon lost mass, and it left the earth's gravity fields, the entire earth-mass would contain less mass, thus forcing the earth's orbit farther away from the sun, cooling the earth drastically, causing global ice ages and destruction of life on earth as we know it!

nothing will happen but there will be no light in the sky. millions of years ago before the moon is been created nothing happened. there was no moon before and now when the lunar eclipse happens nothing happens to us so if the moon is starting to disintegrate we will not be harmed at all because when moon is disintegrates its just like as if the moon in the eclipse mood. do you get hurt when the moon eclipse?? ofcourse not so its the same as if it was not created or vanished. hope i helped and hope that i explained well and dont listen to the people who will say ohhhhhh we will all die.the moon doesnt give us any thing except a light in the sky i mean we can live with out it because we have electricity now every where in the streets and it is not as important as the sun which warm us. take care have a bless day.

The moon lies outside of the Roche limit. If it broke and the piece fell inside of the limit, they would begin to orbit the Earth and become rings.
