do acoustic guitar players need to know the scales on a guitar, it seems like much more of an electric guitar thing?

it's always good to know your scales, since they are the basis of all chords

Acoustic and electric have the same note patterns, and the accoustic guitar (or "classical guitar") was invented a thousand years before an electric.

Yes, scales may be dull and boring to practice, but is anything that is ever worth doing easy when you start? No, but with time and enough practice, scales easily turn into songs. Even the best professional musicians still warm up by playing basic scales. It helps "calibrate" your ear, and loosens up your playing style.

If you are a rhythm guitar player, scales are not as important as chords, but a classical guitarist will need to know the scales.

Nope, acoustic needs to know them too. I just started playing and I'm learning them right now!

Every song played by a guitar, any guitar, banjo, electric, accoustic, plays cords!

actually it's almost the opposite...

to play an electric guitar you could just play power chords all day long and it would sound just fine
while on acousic you really need to know your scales to be able to play much of anything...

although to become very good at any intrument you really do need to know the scales and notes...

It's the same thing , just acoustic , but it's still guitar. Sadly , most people view the acoustic guitar as strictly a "stum tool".only. ....have fun at the campfire.

it would be very beneficial to know your scales whether it be and acoustic or electric...
major and minor chords are essential...
but for me personally, i just play what sounds good as far as scales go...and i didn't turn out to be a bad player at all
good luck with that
