I have a question regarding sharing files and folders. Our company has 8 computers that are all hooked up(wired/wireless) to a linksys router.

Currently, I put all computers on the same workgroup so we can share files/folders.

So say i have a folder C:\TEMP. I right click on it and hit sharing. Then i click share files and folders, and click let others modify em.

How can i make it, so even though were part of the same workgroup, you still need the correct username/password to access my files.

Any ideas? thanks

All computers run Windows XP pro

you need to create a local account on the computer that will be sharing the shared folder (say C:\Temp). Put a password on that local user account. Give the account name and password to those you want to be able to access the shared folder.

on the shared folder, set permission so that only the local account and administrator has access on it.

cheers!

In order to do what you want, you will have to make sure all PC's have the same local users, with same login and passwords...very had to manage from a workgroup perspective. It would be better to add an active directory server....then your users all use the same database for authentication, and therefore much easier to manage.
