With a little fashion savvy, you can learn to make your clothes work for you in showing off your best features and minimizing the not-so-flattering ones.
INSTRUCTION
STEP 1: Choose clothing all in one color to give yourself a long, lean look.
STEP 2: Wear black. It gives a look that is especially slimming.
STEP 3: Try to avoid shapeless clothing. No one is fooled, and loose clothes often make you appear wider or heavier.
STEP 4: Avoid tight clothing that will emphasize your heavy areas.
STEP 5: Choose softly tailored pieces that define but don't constrain.
STEP 6: Steer clear of horizontal stripes, which make you appear wider, but consider vertical stripes, which make you look longer and leaner.
STEP 7: Wear blocks of color that draw the eye away from less-than-perfect areas. Wear a red shell or royal blue jacket, for example, to draw attention away from your legs.
STEP 8: Wear shoulder pads and wide necklines to balance wide hips.
STEP 9: Choose pants that have narrow or tapered legs to hide a large midsection. Flat-front pants and side or back zippers will flatter your figure, while pockets, pleats and tight pants will only draw attention to your midsection.
Tips & Warnings
Put on your high heels & stand up straight. Good posture always enhances your look.

There are numerous ways to make yourself look slimmer. Starting from the bottom up: heels are good for making anyone look taller and slimmer, especially ones with a pointed toe. The pointed toe will help give the illusion of longer, leaner legs. As far as jeans go, a bootcut jean that skims your curves, not tightly hugs them, will be the most flattering. Darker washes are definitely the preferred way to go here too. When looking for a style of jean, stay away from any with a side pocket on the legs or any other embellishment. Less is definitely more in this case. Keep your jeans simple. Also, stay away from the current trend of skinny jeans or jeans that are tapered down towards the ankles. (These will make a person's thighs look even bigger. Your goal is to give yourself an hourglass figure, and this will cause you to look like an upside down triangle on the bottom.) When shopping for dress pants and the like, it's best to look for pants that, again, have a bootcut fit, or even a wide leg fit. The wide leg fit slims the legs, and other people can't necessarily tell that your legs are thick. They often think it's the fabric and make of the pant. (Don't go too wide though.) Darker colors are also very flattering as well if your bottom half tends to be your largest part. When looking for tops, the most obvious tip I can give you is not to buy anything with horizontal stripes. Vertical stripes are definitely more flattering. When looking for style, I have found that ones made with an empire waist are very slimming. They cinch in at the smallest part of one's abdomen (right under the chest) and then gently billow out, skimming over trouble spots on the tummy and not hugging them. Shirts made with ruching are also a good slimming tactic. Wide belts worn around the midsection can also be very slimming and cinch a girl's waist in a whole dress size, but stay away from the skinny ones. When one tries to cinch in their waist with those you tend to see a little bulge under or over it. Hope this helps!

If you want to look slimmer it's an issue of body composition. Clothing only hides you in the winter. What you want to do is improve your overall appearance.
If you are slightly chunky, then i'd recommend diet and exercise for body fat reduction. It's not that difficult, it just requires discipline. As for the wise guys saying you should vomit and use laxatives, they really need to grow up.
As a former personal trainer, I'll give you some real tips to help you reshape your body so that you can look good in anything.
Abbreviated Tips: (ask a question about a whole plan and i'll answer that in more detail)
1) You need your top half of your body to look bigger than your lower half. Ever see female swimmers? Notice that they have a well shaped back and the appearance of narrower hips? It's because they work out and focus on their upper body proportion. Yes they do alot of cardio, but they build their lateral muscles and shoulders up. Broader shoulders equal smaller waist proportions.
2) Eat less. Don't listen to the people recommending low carb diets. They are pretty unhealthy for you as a general rule. But they do have some good tenants. Cut out refined sugars and quick carbs because they spike your insulin levels and cause your body to store calories as fat. Eat small meals because you body can only absorb so many calories at a time, 3 meals a day is a false ideal. You should eat 5 small meals a day.
3) Work out more. And while you are at it make sure you get not only cardiovascular exercise, but do some strength training. You don't have to join a gym. You can do basic exercises at any playground with great results. Pull-ups, pushups, squat thrusts, luges and bar dips work great for the US Marine Corps. Ever see an out of shape Marine recruit? Nope, they almost all come out looking like cookie press humans. All built, all lean and all fit within less than 3 months of boot camp.
Insofar as clothing, the other people hit it pretty well. Wear dark colors, wear clothes that FIT. Most people wear ill fitting clothes either thinking that loose clothes will make them look slimmer and that wearing or buying clothes that are slightly small will only encourage them to lose the extra pounds. Both are a bad strategy.
Wear clothing that fits. That fits not only your body but your individual style. If you don't know what that is and you have the money. Go to an established department store and ask for a personal shopper. They'll help you craft a good look for yourself based on the budget you have.
If you are an old navy, gap sale rack type of person, understand that the people helping you buy clothes are probably clueless teens with no real sense of style. They are paid to peddle shirts that cost the company 2 bucks for 50 dollars (which will be on the sale rack for 2.99 in 2 months).
Your image is important, so portray the best you possible.
One other tip. DO NOT wear huge platform shoes. Men see these and most of us hate them. High heels are great, but please no 4 inch rubber soles on platform goth boots. Not a good look... unless you are an angst ridden rebellious teenager from the midwest.
Good luck and I hope you are able to get the results you desire.

Wear heels, long black pants that almost hit the floor with your heels. Short shorts make legs look longer. Wear dresses with a wrap on the upper waist. Same with shirts. Vertical stripes are always nice, stay away from horizontal. Avoid over-layering.

You seem to be a healthy weight. I am some-what in the same predictament. I am 5'2" and am 133.
What I do is wear LONG pants and shirts that are tighter-fitting and form flattering. I have large boobs and I try to flaunt those with vnecks where-ever possible. This takes attention off of my tummy.
The shirts go to the middle of my hips. It makes me look less short waisted.

oh gosh-there are SO many ways!
-wear black
-wear heals
-wear fitting clothes-not tight or loose clothes
-wear darker jeans
-wear longer tops that fall on the hips
-make sure your pants/jeans are long enough-touching the bottom of the heel-to the floor or just above so you don't step on the fabric
-wear up to date clothes (if your outfit is great no one cares what size it is)
Oh-and most important: confidence. What you feel you portray.

styles that emphazize your curves more and don't add attention to your waist is what your looking for. empire waist shirts and shirts with rouching (wrinkles) on them are probably the best styles on you. remeber to wear nothing too tight and nothing that doesn't give you a shape. miniskirts do nothing for you. stay away from skinny jeans but you can still do the style where you tuck your boots into your pants.
*peace*
