be nice to them, without showing approval for what they are doing/saying

Walking away is an excellent idea. Also ignore them with a smile. If you seem upset then unpleasant person will continue to annoy u.
Pray to God about this situation. Prayer does change things.

1. Turn around and walk away, even if that means leaving mid-conversation.
2. Be truthful with them, for example: Let them know what you think and by confronting them they may be embarresed when faced with the truth. Remember, sometimes the truth hurts.
3. Ignore everything they say, don't deal with them. find another way around it.

You can smile and say something positive (even though it might seem unrealistic, it might change the attitude). You can pray for them (The Bible says to pray for your enemies). You can use a psychic barrier (visualize a white protective light surrounding you). I also imagine that any negaive thoughts are deflected by the white light, and cannot penetrate my personal space.

Good question.
1. Use your cell phone as a diversion. You are getting a call.
works all of the time for me.
2. Bath room or rest room trip......excellent for me.
3. Have a head set ready to listen to music..put the head set on as they approach.
These techniques have worked for me many times.

1st way: I think we'll talk again sometime when you are feeling better. It seems I may have caught you at a bad time! (implies you are at fault somehow, makes them calmer and let you go.)2nd way: Oops, gotta go (if person is in person with you) I have to be picking my kids up from friends.; picking my dog up from vet before it closes;grandmother needs meds, I have to get them, you get the idea! 3rd way:Grab cell phone, act as if it rang, answer it, act sorry that you have to go, but take important call re: dog at vet, kids at school, parent needing meds, etc! This works for me. Gotta go, my dog needs picked up at the vet!

Be kind to the person. I'm sure you have heard the saying "kill them with kindness."
Smile
Laugh when they are unpleasant

don't talk to them...kill them with kindness (just because they are rude doesn't mean you have to be)...be honest with them and tell them that you are really offended by the way that they are acting (sometimes this works, but not usually)
