This paper was due last Thursday. But everytime I start, or even think of starting, I get terrified of failure and I just shut down. It's not like I don't care about doing well in school; in fact I can look forward to a lifetime of miserable jobs if I don't get a degree. I'm already getting some serious late marks docked, and if I don't hurry up and hand it in I won't get any marks for it at all.
Help!
Many thanks in advance.

Petal J, that's so funny that you're from Trinidad, because my paper is on how Earl Lovelace uses Carnival references in his novel Salt.
Thanks everyone for your great answers. I'm making good progress on my paper now. You guys are awesome.

Hi I have just started my college education at APU via international route and I am also in your position because you want to manage time with work, school and your personal life.
It's not at all easy but having a strick study buddy helps.
It's a person who is doing the same courses with you that encourages you to get your points and research together and on time too.
It's been along time since I wanted this opportunity to go to college and I am not a studious or a bright person but I will try and I would not give up even if I fail but I will try my best and pray and ask God the Father to help me to win this battle.
So you are not the only one. I am from Trinidad. West Indies in the Caribbean.
Take Care and I will be checking up with you
WE CAN BOTH DO IT MAN.
JUST ONE STEP AT A TIME AND DO IT NOW.

LOL....I have the same PROBLEM and asked this very same question......LOL.....right now I am supposed to be doing my research proposal....but I am on Yahoo.....LOL!!!!
For me I break my assignment into smaller tasks For example I'll say I want to write two page by lets say 10:30......but before I begin writing I jot down all my ideas, so I can know what I am going to write about w/o forgetting.....Like a checklist and cross them out as I go.....When I was I Undergrad I ALWAYS made TO DO list and placed them somewhere that I always looked and used a different color for each class and checked them off as I went. I have found if I break my LARGE assignment into smaller task I get them done quicker.....because I become frustrated and distracted VERY EASY!!!!!! GOOD LUCK HOPE MY TIPS WORK FOR YOU!!!!!!!
Also get offline I am about to, so I can start my work.......LMAO!!!!

This is a lesson in procrastination.
I kill myself because I'm so frustrated.
And every single second that I put it off, means another lonely night I got
to race the clock.
(I ignore it and it ignores me too.)
What say we go and crash your car?
And every time I leave you go and lock the door.
So I walk myself picking at a chip on my shoulder, I'm another day late and
one year older.
it's failure by design.

Stop what you are doing. Get an outline. Then, just write one paragraph, and take a break. You can do one pargraph. Then, eventually come back and repeat the process till its done.

Just force yourself to start, and then things tend to fall into place. You sound like a very intelligent person. It also sounds like you might be suffering from depression or have too much on your plate and are overwhelmed. If it's simply being overwhelmed, then please just choose one assignment and get it done, then move on from there. Best of luck.

pretend that its like any old assignment and just sit down and do it. even have a friend call you every once and a while to make sure you're still working eventually it will get done.
