I am sorry that you are having this problem. The answer is yes you should see a health care professional as soon as possible. It could be a number of things.
1. Even though you are not having dysuria (problems urinating) it could be a kidney infection. Kidney infections can become worse and never get better on their own. They can develop into a condition called pyelonephritis or a bacterial infection in the blood called sepsis. Pyelonephritis can lead to permanent kidney damage if not treated promptly.
2. You could have a kidney stone. These usually start with a pain that feels exactly like someone hit you in the side. They can radiate down into your groin. Kidney stones, although are painful and leave you feeling very miserable, will sometimes get better with time. However, only a health care professional who has done diagnostic studies can tell you this.
Either way it is in your best interest for you to seek professional medical help from a doctor, physician's assistant or nurse practitioner.
Good luck on your road to better health.

i had a sciatic nerve problem, with the symptoms you describe. Pain on the lower back on the left side, and if you say the pain radiates down the left leg, it could very much be sciatica. You might want to check with the doctor, and if it is a sciatic nerve problem, regular practice of yoga can help you. I was told that i would suffer from it on and off for life, but i turned to yoga and have beeen completely pain free for the last 5 years. Good luck.

It sounds like sacroiliac joint pain. See if ibuprofen helps.
Another thing: pain like that can be caused by a difference in leg lengths. Lie down on the floor with your legs straight and heels together. Have someone see if one leg is shorter than the other. If one is shorter, put a heel pad in the shoe of the short leg.

This could easily be a tiny stone in the ureter. That would not interfere with urinating but could be causing your symptoms. Get an exam, xray, ultrasound, and urinalysis.
