Oh boy !!! Why don't you keep bettas ! They don't give a bubble what you drop in the tank, as long as there's water. You can have a bunch of bettas with a one gallon tank. Be sure to teach them good behavior by not fighting one another. And, oh yeah, remember to feed them from time to time, too.

Its depending only on what type of fish u have, cause if is Betta not need oxygen or air pump but also is good to keep them wish oxyg. If is other like goldfish (most popular) air stone is fine or u can buy a filter too depending the size of ur acuarium, i think for one gallon tank air pump and stone is okay. ;-)

ONE gallon???? That's So Small!!! I was going to say an underground filter. It is $10 and it needs a hose line with an air pump (which you have already) If you have a filter in your tank, it should be helping your fish and be sure to change the filter cartridge every 2-3 weeks and clean out the intake tube once a month.

An airstone needs to be hooked up to an air pump.
Why don't you get a bigger tank???? You keep posting questions about your poor goldfish and koi in 1 gallon tanks. It is ridiculous. It would be okay for a few days, but they are both quick growers, they NEED bigger tanks! Your goldfish will soon need 15-20 gallons and your koi will need a POND!!!
If you cannot afford their care, BRING THEM BACK TO THE PETSTORE, AND GET A BETTA.
Do not torture these poor fish because you cannot afford an airpump, let alone a real tank. 1 gallon is like you living in a cupboard.

In order for the air stone to work, you need to hook it up to an air pump. You can buy them anywhere (anywhere from Wal-Mart to PetSmart) and they're not expensive. If you're not wanting to buy an air stone, try putting live plants in the tank with your fish.

these guys are right about the air stone. I think, you need more help than we can give you. go to a friendly pet shop and ask them questions. they will be glad to help you with your needs. An air pump only cost about 6 dollars. Maybe you could find one at a yard sale for cheaper.

well the air stone is powered(ran) by the air pump, they just create bubbles when collected to the air tube from the air pump.
well about your problem i recommend you get a cheap air pump or get aquactic plants... may i recommend java fern or anubias??? (anubias are expensive but nice and hardy.)
just go to a pet store and ask for their plants theyll show you and pick the one that you like best. they produce oxygen, adds decoration, and you can get creative with it also, it will also remove some bad stuff like some chemicals, well not really chemicals stuff like nitrate or nitrite.

An airstone is attached to the end of the air pump hose to hold down in the water. Their are artificial plants that you could buy to put in the tank.
