I am an editor for several small publishing companies and I can tell you that the advice you have been given here will not sell your book. You might sell a few copies, but after about 20, that would be the end of it.

Secondly, you can't buy just ONE ISBN number to self publish. They have to be bought in blocks of 10 which cost around 300 bucks for the set - that's a lot of money for only one book.

My suggestion - finish writing the book first. There's no need to put the cart before the horse - finish writing the book. When you are finished, edit the book and research how to properly format the book (or hire a pre-submission editor to format and edit the book for you). When you have a completely edited copy of the book, in the proper manuscript format, then and only then do you need to worry about selling the book to a publisher or agent.

After the book is finished, edited, and formatted, you can then write a killer query letter and book synopsis and begin sending queries to agents and publishers. Read their guidelines carefully to make sure you follow them to a T.

Expect a lot of rejection.

The Chicken Soup for the Soul Series was rejected over 100 times before a publisher finally bought it.

Don't give up!

The main thing is, finish writing the book!

Before you begin, why do not you become a member of a creator's elegance and be taught the craft? You will be taught plenty from the feedback of your partners and the educate. So many humans begin to write down a unique without difficulty due to the fact that an proposal comes into their head and believe that the leisure will seem like magic. Even if it does the tale isn't coherent and wanders round as though misplaced, ultimately stumbling upon the way in which out. A well novel isn't written that method however in a sure layout.. You ought to take a seat down and don't forget the plot, and the characters in it. What are their backgrounds, their likes and dislikes, their strengths and their weaknesses? How is the plot to be built, and how are you going to solve the finishing? A trace. As you write the chapters replica keyword phrases right into a transitority dossier known as “Last Chapter” which you are going to ought to have while you finish the radical, so that you don’t need to seek for the understanding however can use the transitority dossier. There is a common procedure of establishing any novel or play known as an 'Analysis'. It lays down while specified key parties must arise and the way the characters must engage. At the top it tells you to provide an explanation for why the major man or woman succeeded of their intention and the way it got here approximately. This is most commonly what the final bankruptcy does. I can not provide the Analysis right here as it's too intricate, however you'll be competent to get a duplicate from a neighborhood Playwriting Group, or might be an trainer at a creator's membership. In any case, when you desire your competed novel released, despite the fact that the marketplace is incredibly aggressive, you are going to want each a synopsis and the evaluation to fulfill the writer or agent that it's built appropriately. I observed extra luck with radio and degree than I did with books although I've written 4 novels, all conforming to the Analysis. It is a crowded marketplace, however one that is slowly demise. ePublishing is methods to cross now.

There are a lot of rejections when going along the traditional route of getting a book published. Why don't you try the non-traditional route and self-publish.

There are two routes to self-publishing. The traditional one where you end up with a garage full of your books and an unhealthy bank balance.

My suggestion is to self publish, using the print on demand principle:

Write your book
Get it proof read
Get an ISBN Number
Get someone to do a cover design (front and back)
Format the book so that it is ready to print (ie Microsoft Word, Publisher etc
Get the work saved as a PDF File (free software available from www.pdf995.com for example)
Go to www.lulu.com (they will produce the book for you in any quantity - even 1!)
Then go www.amazon.com to get it sold.

I know it sounds simple but at least there's very little risk involved. If it sells well, then you could consider getting an established publisher to take an interest and do a reprint.

Don't send your manuscript to other authors. They won't touch it. No one wants to be accused of stealing work.
And don't blindly send it to publishers, either. Instead, go to the writer resource section at your library and start researching. Read books like "The First Five Pages," "Formatting and Submitting Your Manuscript," "Writer's Market," and books about revision and editing. Then, prepare yourself for rejection. A LOT of rejection. I've been published, but I got rejected today for an article I really wanted to sell, and it still feels horrible.
