I have a 2001 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 4 Cylinder. I had a new A/C compressor installed over the summer. When accellerating the car would go and then lose power, but the enigne got louder, the car was slow to find the correct gear when passing or accellerating. This only happened when it was hot or warm outside or in direct sunlight,at night and when its cooler outside the car runs perfectly fine performance wise, but makes wierd noises when the A/C is on. What would make my car run so weird and make strange noises. Please Help...

I guess you did not have problem before installing A/C compressor right?

Then the best thing is to go to the place where you put the new part and ask them to check the installation.
Have you noticed the problem occur when A/C is turned off? if no problem when a/c turned off, then surely problem with a/c. If the problem is there whether a/c is turned on or off, then it can be anything. Like a/c and transmission.

My best guess is the a/c installation.

an automobile AC compressor needs alot of oomph to work. your just feeling the difference when the AC is on.

After seeing your additional comment, I'd say the clutch on the compressor is causing this, or the compressor itself is weak. It's taking alot of torque to get it going. Maybe the replacement is for a slightly larger engine, or not the same compressor. Either way, it doesn't sound like a good match.

Have the transmission fluid level checked by a professional. Also a transmission cooling line may be clogged or even crimped restricting coolant flow to the transmission. Have you cooling system flushed and inspected by a professional. This should be routine maintenance but most people try to get by with just the basic oil change. Discuss you problem with the mechanic and see if he agrees. The problem does seem to be with the transmission and if it is because it is getting hot those are the two main reasons to look at.
