1.Simplify the polynomials (adding like terms)

5x^2 + 4xy + 6y^2 + 3y^2 + 2y^2

3x + y

x/2 + 3x + 4xy

2. Evaluate if x= .2 and y= .1

2x + y^2

7x^2 - 2y

6 (x^3 + y^3)

5x - 6x^2y

9 - xy

.5 + x^2y

3. Multiply. Do not solve the numerical coeffectients.

6^2 * 6 * 6^3

11 (11^2) (11^4)

x^3 * x * x^2

Please give show your work step by step so i can get the concept and finish my homework. Thank you in advance.

1. Adding like terms: Like terms are those that have the same variable raised to the same power. For example, 2x + 3y + 4x + 5y... you need to combine the x's and the y's. 2x's plus 4x's gives you 6x's. 3y's plus 5y's gives you 8y's. So your answer would be 6x + 8y. Look at the variables (the letters) to decide which terms are like terms. 3y, 17y and 6y/5 are all like terms. 12x and 3x^2 are not like terms because in one case you have plain old x and in the other you have x squared. Similarly, 2xy and 8xy are like terms but 2x^2y and 2xy^2 are not like terms. Once you figure out which terms are like terms, you just add or subtract the coefficients (the numbers in front of the letters) as directed.

2. Evaluate the expression when x = 2 and y = 1 means plug 2 in every time you see x and plug 1 in every time you see y. Then do the calculations indicated. For example: Evaluate 3x^2 - 2y when x =2 and y = 1.... Plugging in: 3(2)^2 - 2(1) = 3(4) - 2(1) = 12 - 2 = 10.

3. I'm guessing what "Do not solve the numerical coeffecients" means is don't actually expand the exponential expressions... the rule for combining exponents when you are multiplying numbers raised to an exponent and all the bases are the same is to add the exponents. Remember if there is no exponent, then it's actually raised to the 1st power. So 5^3*5*5^5 is the same as 5^3*5^1*5^5 or 5^(3+1+5) which is 5^9. If you have x^7 * x^10 * x the exponent will be 7+10+1 so the answer is x^18

I'm sure someone will give you the answers... hope my post helps you understand how to do them on your own! :-)

hi buddy this an uncomplicated question in accordance with linear equations you need to use transposition technique in this technique while a term is transfered from one part to different its sign will become opposite answer: x+4-7x=22 =4-7x=22-x (here x comes from the left part its sign differences) =4=22-x+7x(here 7x comes from the left part its sign differences) =4-22=6x(comparable) =-18=6x x=-18/6 =-3 Bye Bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
