We were too lazy to give the "orange" a real name. So we looked at it and noticed that it's orange and named it that.

Because people would laugh at us. That's like saying why don't we call apples reds???
Or squashes yellows?
yeah I never quite understood that either...I think maybe that Bananas was the last name of the person who discovered them or something

It is because the other plants were named at the discretion of those who found the plant first. Oranges just happened to be called Oranges.

LOL- Point well taken! I think they should be called yellows, and apples should be called reds. Things would be much simpler if the fruits were color-coded. Strawberries could be called small reds, lemons--small yellows, etc.
