I'd guess that you speak for less than .01% (one hundredth of 1%) of male teachers. Sooner or later, the tiny minority do get caught and are removed and sent to jail.

Well, let's see. There are approximately 3.1 million teachers in public schools today according tothe Sept. 2006 edition of NEA Today. Of those, approximately 79% are female, according to the article, which means that only 651000 are male teachers.

Let's PRETEND that you are correct - 60% of male teachers ARE child molesters/abusers (I find that VERY hard to believe) - that means that approximately 390600 male teachers are child molesters, according to your hearsay.

It'd be pretty difficult for THAT many male teachers to be married (the same article states that only about 15% of teachers remain single), coach sports, stay involved in extra-curricular activities and be in the classroom with students for 6-7 hours a day and NOT be "caught" - they would be in the news constantly.

I'd say it is much closer to .10% - 651 - that are molesters/ abusers.

First, every state/school district requires a fingerprint check through an FBI database and usually a local/state database, which eliminates many people from even TRYING if they have a record of child molestation/abuse.

Second, being a teacher requires a strict standard of trust from within the profession itself and from the public. More than 99% of us are not going to tarnish that reputation by doing something so horrendous. Those VERY FEW who do are mentally ill and have not yet faced their illness.

Third, from news reports, call it what you want, but there are female teachers who take advantage of young teens in a sexual way as well - is that not molestation, too? It seems to me I have heard more of those cases than of the male teachers taking advantage of females.

In any case, no one will really EVER know the true percentage because most of it goes unreported - Female teacher to male student and Male teacher to female student.

I still truly believe that more than 99% of ALL teachers keep their acts clean and have no "wrong" type of relationship with their students.

That is an absurd lie. The number of teachers , male and female who are child abusers is actually less than the population average. Its more obvious and heinous when a teacher abuses a child but the actual percentage is not anywhere near sixty percent. It is under five percent in the category of all abuse.
