When I was young I was a little boy that wore dresses. My babysitter would dress me up & the girls across the street used to invite me to play dress-up with them. This led to lots of time in dresses, which I didn't mind at all.

My mom used to dress my baby brother in traditional Spanish clothing that she'd buy him when we went on trips there to see our family. They looked like dresses. It all depends on the area of the world you're coming from.

wow...people apparently have strong objections to boy in dresses...

My son who is now just 6, went thru a phase where he wanted to be a girl. Every time I turned around he was in his sisters clothes. He has grown out of now...no big deal.
I think its worse to shame him for pretending to be who he wanted to be in that moment.
