Okay, my computer is brand new, I have an asus motherboard, and the sound audio works perfectly for every application. But there is absolutly no sound in my dvd rom drive and dvdrw drive. I connected them both to the onboard audio connector and everything. I am at a total loss. The drivers are upedated and the audio apparently is working. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Most modern computers do not need an internal audio cable. If you are trying to play a CD, try the following:

1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties
2. Click the Hardware tab and then click "Device Manager"
3. Under DVD/CD-Rom drives, expand that section and right click on one of your DVD drives, then click "Properties"
4. Click the Properties tab and then select "Enable digital audio for this CD-ROM device"
5. Click OK. Repeat for the other drive and close the device manager.

Note: If your problem is with DVD audio, then this has nothign to do with your internal audio cable. It is most likely due to a missing video codec for DVD Video. In this case you should try installing a new DVD player program to see if it fixes your problem. Try InterVideo's website for a trial version of WinDVD, so you can at least test if that's the problem.

Goto Device Manager (Start>Run>compmgmt.msc). Search for ur audio card there. If there's a main issue with it, u will see a yellow "!" subsequent to it. Just double-click on on it, press Reinstall Drivers, insert the driving force CD (on the whole ur motherboard cd), reboot, the whole lot will have to be best now. Even if this did not paintings, get Service Pack two on your XP after which check out once more.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
