I have one angel fish in a 4 foot fish tank along with other "community" fish. The tank is quite settled so is it a good idea to add a second and does male or female matter?
And how do you tell the difference?

In a 4 foot tank you should not have any problem with another fitting in. As far as the other fish are concerned, it might be good for your angel to have company. Does your angel get defensive towards the other fish? This can usually be resolved if there are other fish of the same kind, you know, safety in numbers. If a fish is on it's own, it doesn't feel safe and therefore attacks others, but in numbers they feel safe and no need to attack. If you get another, same sex is ok unless you want to breed. If you do breed, then your angels will be forever protecting their eggs and young and will definately attack and kill if necessary. In angels, it's hard to tell the sex if they are young, but the larger they are the easier. Males of the same age are larger and they have a more prominant hump between the base of the dorsal fin and the nose. I have two angels that have tried to raise young in a tank of baby angels from a previous clutch. They don't get any further than the first few days after the eggs have been laid and fertilized. This is the way I want it at the moment. The other angels are eating the eggs, which avoids me having to raise the shrimp to feed them and to try and find another enclosure to keep them safe, it's a natural way of keeping the numbers down. A lot of time consuming work goes into raising angel fry, so think hard before getting into it. Want more info, contact me, or check out website I've included. Good luck

Angel fish, like most monogamous cichlids, will get along very well with a mate and you've got plenty of room. The addition must be compatible however, and simply adding another fish, even if you know it's the opposite sex, will probably not work out that great, and could lead to endless fighting.

The best way to achieve a compatible pair is to purchase a few angels, grow them out together in the tank, and let them form their own relationships. Once you have a pair, discernible by their behaviour, then you can remove the remainders. Once they pair up, it's usually permanent.

The Angelfish has regular it is territory so as you be conscious, that is purely no longer a reliable theory to characteristic any extra Angels except you've a a lot more desirable tank. This in many situations takes position at the same time as more desirable fish are envisioned to stay in a small tank. A Dwarf Puffer is a Brackish water fish and actual would not belong with the Angel both and is perhaps assisting to irritate it. Puffers are fin nippers and as a regular rule might want to easily be kept with different brackish fish of the same temperament. Angelfish like the temp to be 80.

I am not to sure with Angle fish I belve they get to about 5 - 10 inches I could be wrong! But I go One inch of fish per gallon of water it sound like you might have aboug a 45- 50 gallon tank! SO I think you can put another angle fish in there but it just depends on how many other comunity fish you have in there!

I have 2 angel fish in the same tank and they are fine. The trick is you gotta get a couple. If both are of the same sex, they will fight alot. And oh yeah! you gotta have a big enough tank so's they'll have their own space.

No, I have heard that it is very bad to have more then one angel fish in a tank no matter how big. They fight allot, and will injure each other.

adding a female would be great. It's fun watching them interact but it's really hard to tell which is a male or female... maybe buy 2 more and hope one is compatible with your first first... which may or may not be a male.

and hopefully you have the space of course.
