It takes four years of successful attendance to earn a high school diploma. The alternative is the GED, a test taken in five parts, which is earned upon successful completion. These scores are recorded with the state capitol.

With either a diploma or GED, one may pursue a college education.

Diploma

You get a GED if you can't get a diploma. If you dropped out or failed you obviously can go back to high school, but you can take the classes over again some how and get a GED. GED means Graduation Equivalency Diploma, but i think it should mean Good Enough Degree.

Well I have a diploma , I really think that there isn't really a difference between a diploma and a GED. It's like just as long as you have one or the other.

High School Diploma

In reality there is no difference.
I was a high school drop-out at age 16. Back in my youth days we didn't have the advantages the young people have today in school and it was totally boring to me. I joined the military when I was only 17 and received my certificate by taking the GED while in the military. I retired from the military after almost 21 years and had earned enough credits for a BA degree in college during those years in the military also. When I retired from the military, I was turned down for many jobs in civilian life because I was considered to be over-educated. In many cases I was refused a job because the foreman thought I would be hired to replace him because I was more qualified for his job then he was.
But today I do advise young people to finish High School. The advantages of getting a decent job today require atleast a high school diploma. By the way... I did not use the spelling check either. How did I do?

High School Diploma is better. It shows you took the high way and worked a lot to get your diploma.

I think a hs diploma is looked at more favorably...there are some jobs that just won't hire you if you're not a high school graduate...

A diploma shows that you stayed in school to the end and shows prospective employers that you are willing to stay until the end.
