What myths have you heard about not cutting your baby's hair until they are 1? My daughter will turn 1 next month and her hair is really long. Her hair goes down to the middle of her back and her bangs are in her face. How did your baby take getting her hair cut?

I have heard that so many times and I don't even know where it came from. I did it anyway -much to the horror of my in laws and others- I cut my first sons at 5 months and my second at 6. I MIGHT have waited a little longer if they were girls but I was tired of people thinking my little men were girls no matter how much blue I put on them!! Anyway .. they are now 3 and 10 months and both still have a head full of hair .. I really don't think it is going to hurt anything .. just another wives tell

I have heard that it is bad luck to cut your baby's hair before they turn 1. It's all just a myth. My son is 10 months old and has already had two hair cuts. He is fine! He did well on the hair cut. By the way, if she turns 1 next month, you've waited this long, what's a few more weeks?!

About the myths I have no idea but I had my children's' hair cut bold at 7 days old no problems at all because they are not going to move too much if you hold them in a football hold and the other partner cuts. If you too scared to do that then a visit to the barber shop would work as well. So don't worry you can try if you want. Good Luck

I haven't heard any myths but people are shocked that I don't wait until my kids' first birthday. My first son was born with hair grown past his ears. His was first cut at 2 months old. My youngest son was cut at 11 months. He wears glasses that have a band around his head so I had to cut it so it wouldn't get tangled in the band.

Neither of my kids liked getting their hair cut. When my oldest turned 2 1/2, he finally let a barber cut his hair with no problems.

My second child a boy had his hair cut at 6 months it was all over and looked like he stuck his finger in a light socket... No problems..

We have a place around here called kids fun cuts and they have power whells and other ars and jeeps lifted up as seats. They have movies in and everything is friendly. My kids love it. Maybe you could find something like that where you are. They also give out first hair cut kits. they take a photo and keeps some hair and what not. Good Luck!!

My baby goes in for her first haircut on Thursday. She is 16 months old.

In the past, I know my sister took her kids in to meet the person that would be cutting their hair, so they were comfortable with her. My beautician also said that kids should go to the same person, so they create a trust with the beautician, and they will be much better behavioral wise if they are with someone that is constant.

Good luck!

there's nothing wrong with just trimming it. we cut my son's hair all the time. I think a little girl with long hair is adorable especially if she's got curls but trim the hair out of her face so she can see. But save a lock of the first haircut for the baby book, if you take her to a salon like Fantastic Sams they make it fun for the kid.

I always hated getting my 3 boys first hair cuts, they always grew the cutest curls in the back. I had to cut it though otherwise people thought they could be girls. My boys didn't care much about getting their 1st haircut I just took them to a place that specialized in kids cuts. They put them in a car and popped in a video so they could of cared less.
I just now have little curly hair clippings and pictures to remember it by.
