I just got a new doctor, and I've never seen her. I was thinking about going to her for a physical, but I chicken out. Do they do Gyn exams at physicals with Internal Medicine docs? If they do, I'm DEFINITELY NOT seeing her unless I'm sick.

any good doctor will recommend a gyn exam. its part of being female. They check for cancer and diseases that can be treated before they become serious. tell the doctor about your fear of having a gyn exam. she can help.

Is your doctor a specialist in Internal Medicine, if so probably not. If you are sexually active it is very important to have a gyn exam as part of your physical so that they can monitor for cervical cancer.

When you make your appointment for a physical, you tell the receptionist/nurse if you do or do not want a gynocological exam. It's that simple.

I had a family practice doctor do that exam, but the person booking my appointment asked me beforehand if I wanted it, and I expected that doctor to be able to do the exam since I knew he'd delivered babies. And don't worry, if you do decide to have the exam there will be a nurse present to make sure nothing inappropriate goes on.

Being sexually active doesn't have a damn thing to do with it. It is not a "necessary" exam as they want you to think it is. If you don't want one ( and you don't have to want one or have one), then don't. It is just that simple. Your age has nothing to do with it either. It is all up to you, you, and you. Don't be afraid to say "NO" to doctors male or female. Have sense enough to remember it is "your" body, and no one can tell, or demand what you should do with it. Unwanted intimacy does not save your life or prevent cancer. Another thing, you don't need it to get married. Let your hubby to be, do the honors. He has looked forward to that and should have the priviledge to be the first one there. Not some damn gyno asshole.

I dont blame you, I'm 18 and more then terrefied to go get a gyno exam. But no one, espically a doctor can not force you to do anything. They may recomend it depending on your age, but it's up to you. She may not even do that sort of stuff, it depends on the type of doctor she is.

Aw sweetie! Getting a pap smear is TOTALLY NESSESSARY to having good health! You must take responsibility for your own health. I swear it's not bad at all!!!!!!! Just tell your OB/GYN that you're really scared and need them to help you thru it!

Good luck and be strong!

An internal medicine physician will not normally do a vaginal exam like a gynecologist. They will normally do a breast exam.

Your regular family doctor shouldn't check you down there. If they tell you to totally dis-robe, tell them you have a gyn doctor.

No one likes to have that done but you need to be responsible about your health. If you are sexually active you owe it to yourself to have regular pap tests. Now is as good a time as any to be a grown up and take responsibility for your health and your body. It is empowering.
