My transmission fluid is brown and the transmission slips when the car is cold. I cant get it to a mechanic right away and I want to put conditioner in the car to help tie it over until I can get it flushed and drop the pan. But there is more than enough trans fluid already, would it be too much to add a quart of conditioner?

i own a repair shop, and i wouldn't add a whole lot of that stuff to it,,it works sometimes,,but the majority of the time i have seen it used ,it caused more problems, then it did good,,especially with leaks, but some people say they have used it,and it worked,,i stopped using it here at the shop, because i never seen one transmission that it really helped work better,,the best thing you can do for any transmission is keep the fluid, and filter changed in it,this will make it last along time,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Some cars have a level sensor that may make it go into a mode where it wont up shift to high gear.Other than that its not advisable. You could take off a transmission line that goes to the radiator and pump some out ruining it a bit.(it gets messy). Or run a siphon tube down the trans fluid filler tube.Just ideas for you.

I would not both with either the conditioner or the trans service as neither will help. The trans is on its way out a service is good money you could spend on a trans overhaul witch is what you're going to need soon

Yes normally it comes in a pint bottle so it wont really be much overfull. Even a quart wouldnt cause any trouble you would have to severely overfill a transmission to cause a problem.

if you add it you will be over filling it which is no good, wait until you can change the fluid and filter and then dump that quart in first then fill up the rest of the way.

I wouldn't. If you put more than enough fluid into the transmission it will cause it to be ruined. it's actually worse than not having enough.
