When I was in elementary school, my mom always got a present for my teacher-whether I liked her or not. I usually didn't even know what it was. I'm not that put together: I have yet to buy any of my son's teachers a gift, and I probably won't this year either.
A card is nice though, especially in the younger grades. They put up with our kids eight hours a day; they deserve a little recognition, I think. As far as high school and middle school; it's up to the kid. If he/she really likes the teacher, a card or candy would be okay, but a gift would be inappropriate unless the teacher and the student's parents were otherwise acquainted.

Traditionally yes it has been customary for some time but as time has pogressed it has become rare. This is due to many new rules that have effected how student teacher relationships are viewed. It is still accepted but know that there are some cases that students have got into trouble over gifts. I suggest if you would like to give teachers gifts do not make them personal in any way.

Don't give your teachers presents. I know it seems harsh, but it's true. It will be a hassle for both them, and you. Your teachers are more busy than you think, and they have a lot to deal with, especially at the end of the day. If you give gifts to all your teachers, most of them will probably forget to take the gifts home, and the gifts will stay in the classrooms til the end of winter break. I'm not trying to be mean, but please, trust me.

When I was young, most childrens parents did not have enough money to by teachers christmas presents. All students in each class drawed names of each other including teachers. and brought presents for each other.

I remember as a child my mother would take me shopping and I would give gifts to teachers but I can't remember now (been too long ago) and yes they diffenitely do deserve gifts because it is a lot harder to be a teacher now than it was back in the 70's so parents take your kids out and help them pick something nice and tasteful out, like ladies hankerchiefs or mens.

Yes,teachers do deserve Christmas gifts but one persons idea of a nice, tasteful gift could be another persons nightmare or the teacher could already have something like it. One gift that is easily portable and ALWAYS appropriate is a gift card to someplace like Walmart,Target, Office Depot,an art supply or craft store or someplace they can spend it on themselves or to buy classroom supplies since I have heard in many school districts teachers have to supply many of their own teaching aids.

Yes, because it is the right thing to do, and it may help raise your grade. I usually give presents to friends, family, mailman, teachers, and the people that we see that are less fortunate.

yes they do. even if it's just a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
i used to bake cookies and give them to my favorites. there's one teacher that i especially like so i usually get her lotion or some snowman thing(she loves snowmen). she always gives a gift to my best friend and i, besides the advice she gives us daily. she's one of those people you can go to for anything. anyway even some candy or something is cool.
